IDENTIFYING "CORRECT" WEATHERSHIELD SIDECURTAINS
FOR THE FACTORY ALUMINUM HARDTOP

It should be noted there are at least FIVE different variations of "factory" MGA sidecurtains (I am not counting the aftermarket variations made by Amco, MG Mitten or others). ONLY the "early" plain aluminum frames (marked with the "Weathershields Reg'd. Design" stamp on the inner top of the frame) will fit the factory aluminum hardtop correctly. Here is a rundown of the different varieties of MGA sidecurtain (thanks to Barney Gaylord for some of these images):

This is the original fabric-covered Isenglas sidecurtain for the MGA 1500 roadster. Most owners HATED them since, with the top up, they provided no practical ventilation at all...fogging up the interior of the car in a rainstorm.

This later, improved fabric-covered version came out for the 1600 roadster. The front plastic piece was fixed, the rear piece slid open.

These are the "first" type of EARLY aluminum hardtop sidecurtain frame. These are so rare I'm not even sure they are Weathershields. These were originally painted black to match the hardtop but this owner apparently repainted everything red to match the car. Note the horizontal chrome finishing strip and the very small rubber trim at the bottom. Inside, the bracket to attach to the wing nut is also painted. Looks like a chrome finishing strip between the plexiglass panes. Not sure if you can find any replacement parts for these frames! Offered here for curiousity value only.

OK these are the real deal... early "Weathershield" aluminum sidecurtains for the factory aluminum hardtop. Note the brackets in the front and rear attach with chrome screws (the bracket holes are threaded so no nut required). Front plastic piece is fixed, rear piece slides.

Here is a set of "late" Weathershield sidecurtains for the factory FIBERGLASS hardtop. Note the bottom of the frame is flat, not triangular like the earlier frames. Otherwise they are very similar.
